RESOURCE GUARDING AND JEALOUSY
Just what is resource guarding?
Many people think that dogs are jealous, and to think this is to underestimate the depth of the issue.
Yes dogs have emotions and they relate them to all things, be it living or not. So what is really going on?
Effectively dogs look at all items in their life as a resource. Some resources produce excitability, while some produce a strong emotional connection. Some resources mean little to the dog and so it is willing to share them.
The result is that dogs will tend to defend their access to what they consider valuable and often will not want to share it.
These are some of the most common situations;
- Aggression over food,
- Aggression when on the bed or couch,
- Aggression when they have an object in their mouth,
- Not wanting to return a ball when thrown,
- Jumping up for attention when you hug your partner,
If your dog is exhibiting any of these issues contact me ASAP.
